The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest independent railway company in the world, established in 1832. The railway takes you on a 13½ mile journey from Blaenau Ffestiniog in the mountains, round horse shoe bends, past lakes and waterfalls, through magnificent forest, to the harbour in the seaside town of Porthmadog, a busy harbour town with a good range of shops and a maritime museum.
