Ashbourne, Sudbury Hall & the Museum of Childhood Day Excursion
We start with a visit to the pretty Derbyshire town of Ashbourne, where we have time to browse the local market. We continue to Sudbury Hall, owned by the National Trust, an impressive building built by George Vernon in the second half of the 17th century. It contains many fine rooms, the most interesting being the Long Gallery and the Main Hall, with its beautiful staircase, featured in BBCs Pride and Prejudice. The formal garden leads down to the lakeside. The Museum of Childhood showcases a Victorian schoolroom and nursery with old toys and games and celebrates the escapades and challenges of childhood.
