Wednesday 17th August 2022: An Excursion to Anderton Boat Lift and Lion Salt Works with Whittle Coaches
Book NowAnderton Boat Lift and Lion Salt Works Wednesday 17th August
The Lion Salt works is a restored, historic open-pan salt making site. You will discover how the salt works operated and its impact on mid-cheshires people, economy and landscape. Nicknamed Cathedral of the Canals, not only does the Anderton Boat Lift still do the job it was designed to do of lifting boats and barges 50 feet from the River Weaver, to the Trent and Mersey Canal, but it does it with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure of the canal system. We include a boat trip on Edwin Clark, the glass sided boat which includes a lift trip and a cruise along the River Weaver.
