Training for your PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) licence is free and you would receive pay whilst training as well. All we ask is that you sign an indemnity which commits you to repaying some or all of the cost of your training if you leave within two years. The full amount is £1,250 but this reduces on a monthly basis over the two years.
We offer competitive rates of pay and employment in one of the most secure industries. We also provide all the benefits you would expect from a reputable company including free uniform, company pension scheme, free bus travel, and discounts on coach holidays.
When we get your application you will be considered for interview. Prior to interview you will be asked to complete a brief driving theory test paper lasting approximately 15 - 20 minutes and containing standard car theory test questions obtained from the Highway Code. You will also be asked to complete several questions containing basic arithmetic.
At this point you will be asked to complete an Equal Opportunities employment form and a Disclosure of Criminal Background form.
If you pass the theory test/interview you will then be considered for a drug test/driving assessment. The drug test is a non-intrusive procedure involving the use of a saliva swab.
Your driving assessment will be in two parts lasting approximately 1½ hours and will be conducted by one of our fully qualified PCV driving instructors. The first half will be to determine your road sense in order that the instructor is able to gauge whether or not you are safe enough to progress to the second section. The second half will consist of a small amount of training in order that the instructor may decide how you will respond to full training.
Immediately after the driving assessment you will attend a brief second interview. If you are still successful at this stage a medical will be arranged. The company will pay for this and, assuming you pass your medical, you will then be asked to apply for the Provisional PCV Licence, with assistance from us.
The Provisional Licence will be free for a normal application and £4 for a Fasttrack (obtainable within 3 days, subject to medical acceptance). The cost of the Provisional Licence and upgrade to full licence following successfully passing a PCV test is also free (the only cost you will pay is for the Fasttrack). When the Provisional PCV licence is issued you will immediately be given a full course of instruction on our fleet of special training buses. Depending on your progress this will take between four and six weeks. As soon as we believe you are ready we will apply for a test date. If you fail the test we will usually consider further training to correct the faults identified by the examiner and arrange another test as soon as possible. Once a PCV licence has been gained your position will become permanent
